In accordance with what is now an established BASL tradition, on 7 June 2017 we will be hosting the Ninth Annual Grayson Debate, an event which pays homage to the memory of BASL’s founding President, Edward Grayson, a pioneer of sports law who sadly passed away in 2008.

This year’s debate is entitled “The Post-Millenial Era: How Should Athletes Be Treated?” and is designed to focus on the highly topical subject of the treatment of athletes in the modern era.

This year’s debate will be moderated by Jane Mulcahy QC, Blackstone Chambers and the panel will include; Phelan Hill MBE, Rio 2016 Olympic Gold Medallist and London 2012 Olympic Bronze medallist in rowing, Richard Bryan, Director at the Rugby Players’ Association (and qualified lawyer and former player) and William Norris QC from 39 Essex Chambers.

Our panellists will explore what is acceptable in the highly pressured world of professional sport, including whether it is realistic to impose a duty of care in the elite sporting environment, upon whom, and what this might mean in practice.

The  Debate, will take place at 6pm on Wednesday 7th June 2017 at the offices of Charles Russell Speechlys LLP, 5 Fleet Place, London EC4M 7RD.

The event is open to all BASL members and is free of charge.

If you wish to attend, please reply to Catherine Forshaw by email to [email protected] as soon as possible as places are limited.
