BASL welcomes Stacey Copeland as Keynote Speaker for 2026
Stacey Copeland has represented her country in two sports, football and boxing. As a footballer, she represented England U18, played in the women's Premier League, and also competed abroad in America, Brazil and Sweden. As a boxer, she won a European silver medal before turning professional and making history in 2018 when she became the first British woman to win the Commonwealth title.

In 2017, she founded Pave The Way Charity, a charity which aims to challenge gender stereotypes of girls, boys, men and women; she also features in 'Game On', a documentary about women's sport which airs on Netflix and Sky.
Since retiring from sport, Stacey has moved into broadcasting as a boxing commentator, and radio and TV presenter on the BBC, ITV and Sky Sports and in February 2025, she became the first female ever to commentate on boxing on BBC 5Live.
Panel 1- Integrity in Sport: Experts and Complications
Moderated by Louis Weston of Outer Temple Chambers, is made up of Betting Integrity Expert, Tom Chignell, with Aja Hall, Co-Director of Integrity, Regulation and Safeguarding at the British Horseracing Authority, Senior Legal Counsel at The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), Julia Lowis, and Kendrah Potts of 4 New Square Chambers. The panel will be discussing scams, schemes, and shenanigans - the state of sporting integrity and the issue of independence of expert evidence. Keep an eye out for more panel speaker updates in the New Year.
Panel 2 - Social Media: Protection and Potential for Athletes
Moderator by Kate Hamer, Kate Hamer Ltd this panel, made up of Helen Ward, Head of Women’s Football, Watford FC Women, Matt Himsworth co-founder and Director of B5 Consultancy and Tim Edwards, Global Athlete Partnerships Lead, TikTok, will explore the risks and opportunities of Social Media for athletes. It will ask what clubs, federations and platforms should be doing to educate and support athletes, especially in light of the increase in online abuse. It will also discuss the commercial opportunities for all parties on social media and how we can ensure that there is mutual benefit throughout the athlete's active career and beyond.
Panel 3 - Sporting Investigations
Moderated by Dr Katie Smith of Squire Patton Boggs, is made up of Anne Whyte KC, QEB Hollis Whiteman Chambers, Christopher Quinlan KC Farrar's Building, and to complete the panel from Squire Patton Boggs Wayne Barnes. This line-up will be discussing Sporting investigations. The panel will talk about the different types of investigations, the increasing legal complexities involved, and the expertise needed on sport-specific nuances.
Panel 4 - General Counsel
Moderated by Caroline McGrory, Cadillac Formula 1 ® Team, with panel members Edward Holloran, Quarles & Brady LLP, and Kate Beavan with further speakers to be announced soon!
