The British Association for Sport and Law (BASL) is delighted to announce the appointment of Richard Bush as its new Chair.

Richard is a partner at the international law firm Bird & Bird, where he specialises exclusively in sports law. Since beginning his sports law career in 2011 as a junior in-house lawyer at The FA, Richard has gained extensive experience advising sports organisations nationally and internationally across a wide variety of issues. Richard is therefore able to bring a wealth of expertise and insight to the role.

Richard was elected by the BASL Board on a platform that included four key aspects:

  1. BASL taking over editorship of the next edition of Sport: Law and Practice (Lewis & Taylor),

  2. an increased focus on women’s sport, social mobility, and BASL activities across Britain (with BASL directors/representatives to be appointed to focus on and develop each of those areas),

  3. developing closer ties with other national and regional sports law associations, and

  4. continuing BASL’s important work in respect of its Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in Sports Law, annual conference, Masterclasses and other events. Richard looks forward to working closely with the BASL Board, BASL’s members, and the wider sports law community to put that platform into action.

Please join us in welcoming Richard to his new role. We look forward to the leadership and vision he will bring to BASL. In doing so, we again sincerely thank Catherine Beloff for her expert leadership during her time as Chair.
