About the event

BASL is pleased to launch the first of its new initiatives for aspiring sports lawyers...

At 6pm on Thursday 25th June, BASL will be hosting the inaugural Q&A session for aspiring sports lawyers. The first session will allow aspiring sports lawyers to ask questions relating to sports law and careers in sports law of BASL board members Louis Weston and Lloyd Thomas [links to LinkedIn profiles], who are looking forward to providing their insight and guidance based on their significant experience as practitioners working with and for a variety of sports organisations.

Louis is a Barrister and heads up Outer Temple Chambers’ Sports Law team. He has specialised in Sports Law for over 15 years, with his practice focusing on Sports Regulation, Governance, Disciplinary Cases, Safeguarding and Anti-Doping. He is ranked as a leading junior in Chambers and Partners, WWL and Legal 500 UK.  He has appeared in many leading cases in the UK involving corruption in sport and has acted for and advised national and international sports regulatory bodies in the UK, Ireland, the Middle East and Asia across a range of sports including Horseracing, Football, Snooker, Badminton, Rugby, Darts, Cricket, Golf, Gymnastics, and Greyhound Racing.

Lloyd is General Counsel at Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club and a Director of the British Association for Sport and Law. He previously served as Legal Counsel at Arsenal FC and spent nearly a decade at Squire Patton Boggs, where he was part of the Sports Law team advising clubs, individuals, and governing bodies on contentious and regulatory issues, including player transfers and proceedings before the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber and the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

In order to ensure that questions can be answered to the full benefit of attendees, the session will be capped to a maximum of ten attendees on a first come first served basis (save that priority will be given to BASL student members). If the session is oversubscribed, there will be a waiting list for priority for the next session, and we will be looking to run the sessions on a quarterly basis.
